The Perfect Napa Valley Proposal
We've got a list of the most decadent, mind-blowingly intimate destinations within the already ridiculously romantic Napa Valley.
Looking to plan the perfect proposal? Look no further than the blissfully romantic and stunningly scenic Napa Valley.
Napa Valley is filled to the brim with romantic experiences and intimate settings. There's simply no better place to create the perfect moment that sets the stage for a lifetime of memories.
With picturesque vineyards, epic restaurants, ample outdoor space, and – of course – some of the best hotels anywhere on the planet, Napa Valley is the perfect place to pop the question and become engaged to be married.
Below are just a few of our favorites, but there are many other ample backdrops for this unforgettable moment, including some of the Napa Valley’s most beautiful wineries.
Proposal Experiences
Romantic Restaurants
Sky & Vine Rooftop Bar — The restaurant/bar at the top of Archer Hotel in downtown Napa has breathtaking views of the town, making it a great spot to engineer a proposal your partner will never forget. The deck has ample space; a quick chat with servers likely will be enough to get you access to one of the more secluded spots for the “Big Ask.” If you’d like to get a room afterward, simply take the elevator or stairs down.
The French Laundry — Romance is on tilt at “TFL,” the restaurant that remains arguably the most famous in Napa Valley – and perhaps America as a whole. Executive Chef Thomas Keller creates dishes with a master touch – dishes with a nod to the past but an eye on the future. Transition time between courses gives lovebirds plenty of time throughout the night to propose, canoodle, and otherwise rejoice over the happy news.
Blissful Resorts
Carneros Resort and Spa — This sprawling resort, in the southern part of the valley, is a great place to get away with your partner, no matter what you plan to do. For proposing, however, the resort offers cottages with private yards, a spectacular pool deck that looks out onto a horizon of vineyards, and secluded lawn spaces throughout. Following the big moment, retire to the Boon Fly Café for some signature fried chicken and local wine.
Auberge du Soleil — Stroll through the sculpture garden at this secluded St. Helena resort, where the concierge can set up the perfect picnic proposal surrounded by art and vineyards. Celebrate engagement plans with a Michelin-starred lunch at the on-site restaurant, which has a patio that overlooks the entire valley. The concierge can also arrange for a portrait photographer to snap shots of the priceless moment, hidden from view. These are good for the Instagram as well as the home album.
Spectacular Wineries
Domaine Carneros — Sparkling wine should be a part of every engagement, which makes this French-styled Carneros-area winery and chateau a great spot to pop the question. Book a Grande Tasting for the outdoor patio and supplement the experience with a Tsar Nicoulai caviar flight to make the experience truly special. Afterward, stroll the grounds and find the perfect spot near a fountain for the big event.
Castello di Amorosa — Visiting this winery is like taking a trip back through time, to a medieval Tuscan castle recreated in the hills of southern Calistoga. Owner Dario Sattui built the castle over 13 years from 1994 to 2007, and today the spot is a romantic – and historically accurate! – backdrop for a moment to remember forever. If you choose to become engaged here, be sure to pose out front with some of the resident animals, including emus.
Outdoor Beauty
Wombat Charters — Renting a private boat from this American Canyon-based company affords you the luxury of spending a day in any number of ways: fishing, wildlife-watching, exploring, or proposing marriage and a lifetime together. Of course, the best choice may be to combine any one or two of those activities together, devising a new sort of intersectionality that results in an engagement and a one-of-a-kind memory that will never fade with time.
Mount St. Helena — Outdoor enthusiasts make pilgrimage-style day hike to the summit of this mountain north of Calistoga from the parking lot, which can be accessed off Highway 29. From the trailhead, the tromp takes about six hours round-trip. Our advice: Leave before sunrise so you and your beloved summit just as the fog burn-off reveals the valley down below. Chilled rosé definitely tastes better at the top of the mountain after a long hike (and after an enthusiastic “yes!” to the proposal).
Private Hot Air Balloon Ride
Napa Valley Aloft — One of the best ways to experience Napa Valley is from the air, and one of the most memorable ways to do that is in a hot air balloon. This Yountville-based company provides the perfect floating experience for a proposal, offering private trips in baskets large enough for at least one guest to get down on a knee. Many packages include sparkling wine and light snacks, which can be enjoyed after both partners say, “yes.”
